Se describieron once casos documentados en la bibliografía, que afectaban a niños mayores y adultos jóvenes. A diferencia de la forma clásica de arteritis temporal, no es una enfermedad sistémica ni causa síntomas locales en la región temporal. El término arteritis temporal juvenil fue acuñado por Lie y colaboradores en 1975, cuando informaron cuatro casos de una enfermedad asintomática en otros aspectos que se presentaba con un nódulo indoloro en la región temporal. Ninguno de los casos presentaba evidencias de una enfermedad sistémica o antecedentes de traumatismo en la región temporal. La biopsia por resección de las lesiones reveló una inflamación granulomatosa de células no gigantes de las arterias temporales con infiltración eosinofílica, proliferación de la íntima y ruptura de microaneurismas en la capa media. La enfermedad tiene un curso clínico benigno, se trata con resección quirúrgica y no Se describieron once casos documentados en la bibliografía, que afectaban a niños mayores y adultos jóvenes. A diferencia de la forma clásica de arteritis temporal, no es una enfermedad sistémica ni causa síntomas locales en la región temporal. El término arteritis temporal juvenil fue acuñado por Lie y colaboradores en 1975, cuando informaron cuatro casos de una enfermedad asintomática en otros aspectos que se presentaba con un nódulo indoloro en la región temporal. Ninguno de los casos presentaba evidencias de una enfermedad sistémica o antecedentes de traumatismo en la región temporal. La biopsia por resección de las lesiones reveló una inflamación granulomatosa de células no gigantes de las arterias temporales con infiltración eosinofílica, proliferación de la íntima y ruptura de microaneurismas en la capa media.
